Scale Space is a new facility, located at the Imperial College White City Campus, in the heart of West London’s new innovation district. Saunders were appointed at RIBA Stage 4 to develop the technical design for the construction of Building C – a 4-storey block comprising 46,000 sq.ft of lettable office space. The final element of a wider development, the building is linked to the earlier phases within an area of landscaped public realm.

The detailed design was produced in conjunction with the design team and D&B contractor and constructed using a steel frame with concrete floors and roof with an external wall construction of SFS with metal cladding. The office areas were finished as a category A fit out, with common areas and cores receiving a full fit out. The interior spaces are designed to be robust and flexible and can be adapted by tenants, either as open plan space or compartmentalised workspaces. The contemporary elevations include gold metal mesh screening, solar louvres, projecting window reveals and coloured surrounds to all entrances at ground floor level.

The new building has achieved a BREEAM rating of "Very Good". Scale Space provides flexible research, development, laboratory and office space.
