Set in the leafy residential neighbourhood of Arkley, Kimwood is a new-build family home designed to reflect the area’s architectural heritage while introducing clean, contemporary detailing. The 680sqm residence replaces a mid-century property and reimagines the site with a more refined presence - crafted around light, landscape, and longevity.

The project centres on a double-height glazed atrium, which forms the heart of the house. This generous central space introduces daylight deep into the plan and visually connects all three levels, from basement to first floor. Across the home, large windows and carefully framed views strengthen the connection to the garden, with mature trees retained to soften the setting and reinforce the wooded character of the site.

Material choices were deliberately restrained, light-toned bricks, natural stone, and panelling are used to define volumes and bring warmth to the façade. Internally, the layout was developed around a series of calm, functional living zones tailored to modern family life.

Sustainability was integral to the design from the outset. The house employs air source heat pumps, high-performance glazing, and whole-house ventilation, reducing operational energy demands while enhancing comfort. With its combination of architectural clarity and environmental performance, Kimwood has been designed a family retreat as well as a quietly progressive addition to the neighbourhood.
