The Charterhouse Buildings are situated in a prominent location on the corner of Goswell Road and Old Street, with food and beverage tenants at ground floor and four floors of office accommodation above. The client approached Saunders to develop a scheme that extended and improved the existing building.
The proposal enhances the existing accommodation by re-organising the space to make it more efficient and flexible. The office accommodation is being refurbished to a high specification. A new lift shaft and stair core improve access and promote interactions between floors. A new integrated fifth floor of office accommodation (with concealed plant) captures the Victorian characteristics and adds to the prominence of the original building.
Detailed planning approval of this sensitive site was successfully achieved. Saunders are retained to take the scheme forward to tender and construction.
