Saunders were appointed to provide architectural services for the provision of a new Sure Start nursery incorporating teaching space, associated facilities and an outdoor play-space. This included the development of the masterplan, feasibility studies, and concept design leading to a full planning submission.

The design incorporates five classrooms and associated offices and other facilities, as well as an external play space and parking with drop off area. Flexibility was important to allow staff and children the freedom to create their own environments and to adapt to future changes in requirements. The curved form provides protected views from the classrooms to the varied open and covered play areas. Sustainability forms an integral part of the design concept with the intention of creating a carbon neutral building.
