Creswick, Welwyn Garden City

Client

Places for People and Gascoyne Estates

Saunders have been appointed by Places for People and Gascoyne Estates to produce the technical architectural packages for the first phase of the development at Creswick, Welwyn Garden City. The overall masterplan was approved in hybrid in June 2024 for the development of up to 340 dwellings with associated uses including a civic square, a centrally located community building and a relocated pavilion and pitches for Hatfield and Crusaders Cricket Club. The first phase for 97 dwellings was approved in detail whilst the remaining 243 dwellings were secured in outline to be delivered in three further phases.

Saunders have also been appointed to prepare the Reserved Matters application for the remaining phases for 243 dwellings. Extensive coordination between technical and design colleagues has ensured that lessons learned from the development of the phase 1 technical packages have been carried through into the application drawings, therefore reducing coordination and buildability issues and maximising efficiencies in later stages.

Extensive liaison with both clients has ensured that the design aspirations set out in key guidance documents such as the Creswick Lexicon of Housetypes and The Pattern Book are being delivered through the construction period, whilst also giving Welwyn Hatfield BC assurance of the quality of the finished development.
