Located on a prominent site, this mixed-use development incorporates a seven storey hotel alongside a multi-level foodstore, non-food retail units, and a gym. The scheme incorporates a number of listed buildings and protected frontages. Planning approval was achieved through a hybrid application, with the retail elements approved in full and hotel and gym approved in outline.
The 75 bedroom hotel includes a bar and restaurant opening onto the street frontage. It is located within a dedicated site and provides height and a strong built edge, whilst creating a new thoroughfare through to the wider city. A contemporary approach was adopted for the design to ensure continuity with the appearance of the retail element, but careful consideration was given to form and materials to ensure this prominent element sat well in the surrounding context.
