Saunders design 100% affordable homes in Perivale.

02-06-2020

Saunders are working on a new development for Perivale in Greater London which will provide 100% affordable homes. The site in the London Borough of Ealing is owned by housing association A2Dominion and sits on the southern side of the A40’s Western Avenue, a major route in and out of the capital.

57 new affordable homes are planned, with 52% being for affordable rent and 48% for shared ownership and 10% with a wheelchair requirement. The new homes will sit in two accessible blocks standing from 8 to 9 storeys high both with separate entrances and with specific attention to wheelchair access. At ground level there is cycle storage, parking for 5 disabled spaces, and amenity space including a children’s play area.

The design approach is based on traditional forms and detailing to reflect the predominately brick character of the area and the emerging developments along Western Avenue. A series of set-backs are proposed to the facades to articulate the massing and different elements of the building are accentuated with a staggering of building heights. The elevations provide a well ordered rhythm and structure with full height windows and a mix of inset and projecting balconies. High quality materials are in keeping with the brick character of the surrounding context: a palette of rich textured bricks in two contrasting colours framed by smooth vertical and horizontal stone/ cladding bands that project from the facade.

Danny Lynch, Director of Land and Development, A2Dominion said: “It’s been great working with Saunders and we’re delighted with their design, which sits well with the surrounding area and will provide high-quality homes for the people of Ealing. Like A2Dominion, Saunders understand the value of good quality, affordable housing for people in London and that’s what’s made this partnership such a success.”

David Roles, Director of Saunders commented: “With a need for homes in the capital and its surrounding areas, let’s hope this new development is part of a catalyst for growth in social housing. The Perivale site is in an ideal location for families to work and live”.
