When a school needs new facilities to meet the needs of the curriculum and changing pupil numbers but the ability to develop premises is limited, a comprehensive masterplan will help to establish a logical, cost effective and efficient proposal.
After being approached by a local Hertfordshire school to design a new sports hall, Saunders has spent time developing a comprehensive masterplan that will help the leadership team and governors plan the future for the whole site. Just as importantly, it established a logical, cost effective and efficient proposal for the school that will help to secure funding. It will also ensure that the site is flexible enough to meet potential future demands and adaptations.
Similar to many schools in Herts, this school needed to update and adapt buildings originally constructed in the 1950s to its changing needs. Initial work identified the need for a security strategy around the whole site along with the need for additional classroom facilities and a multi-use sports hall that could also be used for exams, and for enrichment activities. Longer term plans include a new school reception, administrative building and the potential for a gym.
Saunders Architect, Martin Williams, explains. “I am so pleased to be working with this local school to help them optimise their site and its opportunities. It is exciting to think that the spaces we create will have a positive impact on students for many years to come - they deserve, now more than ever, the very best learning environments”
